Lowliest of the Low

In my oppinion, there is nothing on Earth more disgusting then a person who is entierly dovted to themself. There is nothing more loathsome than someone to whome there is nothing more important than their own personal satisfaction. No friend, familly member, or lover to value more than its own personal pleasure. No higher thing or principle--not even the vague conception or wright and wrong--which it values above its own satisfaction. All living things have to take care of themselves, but most people would be willing to sacrifice at least some of their comforts and desires for something that they truely believe to be worth-while.
This is the lowest, most revolting form of life.

Actually, I think all people are essentially only selfish, no matter how they appear. Whenever you give money to a charity, you're trading cash for the knowledge that you gave to a charity; when you're nice to someone, you're trading energy for the belief that you're a nice person. No person is anything but selfish, ever. We're not programmed that way. Even people who risk their lives do so because they subconsiously believe that they could not live with knowledge that they did nothing.

Read "How to Win Friends and Influence People" for more. It's better than it sounds.

I agree, we carry the selfish gene to quote Ted Scovell.
However, I do think that some people carry this further than others. It may be true that we do good deeds in order to obtain a kind of mental reward. However, what I'm talking about is not quite the same thing, in my oppinion.
What I am talking about are people who although they may know that it is wrong or that other people are going to get hurt continue to do something simply because it pleases them to do so, and because they feel that they are entitled above others to the things that they enjoy.

Also, though I think that regardless of the reason why you do it, aa good dead is still a good dead. For example, there was a Northern French Village that elected to hide hundreds of Jews during the Nazi occupation. Now they may have chosen to hide the Jews simply because they could not do otherwise in order to obtain a mental reward, but that did not change the fact that they saved hundreds of lives.
I have a lot to say on the matter that I won't put here, but I'd really like to talk about it with you in person. I have a fair bit to say and I think that we'd have a lot of fun.

it's essentially about what makes you happier, physical reward or the belief that you're a good person; it's essentially about what you value. I still think it's selfish either way.
